How to install Joomla
Installation of Joomla is an easy task
It does not take a lot of time to install Joomla! and, moreover, you can do it in several ways. The choice depends on your personal needs and your current environment ( is it remote or localhost).
Hardware and Software Requirements
At first you should know that you server requires to the minimal configuration for the chosen Joomla! release. You can find requirements on Joomla.org and compare versions of your server and either MySQL and PHP, either supported alternative products. Usually, in case of remotely hosted site you can see this information on the sidebar in the left part of Cpanel.
Now, there are the following main requirements for the Joomla!:
Joomla! uses PHP 5.3+. As for database, you can choose between PostgreSQL, MySQL and MySQLi. However, last option is available in case when you do not use Microsoft server architecture. Moreover MySQLi has the best performance and can be recommended for latest version of Joomla! It would be very convenient if you had domain and hosting. In this case you can test Joomla! in the real conditions. However it is acceptable to install Joomla! on your local computer. Standalone environment such as XAMPP, JOOMLAS2GO! (J2G) or JAMP will be used. Without doubts, in such case you site will not be seen in the Internet.
How download and install Joomla!
Despite the known fact that it is possible to install Joomla! in several ways, we consider two base ways, which can be applied in the most of the cases.
One-Click Installation
This is the simplest method to install Joomla! Fortunately it can be supplied by the most of hosting companies. The advantage of this approach is the fact that you do not need to open special SSH or FTP/SFTP connection. Moreover, in this case you will finish installation quickly. Nevertheless, it is can be a problem if Joomla! version installed by your hosting provider differs from then installing version.
Conventional Installation
This type of installation is good for the most users. At first you should download .zip file with Joomla! and create own database of the chosen type. To continue, remove this file to the directory where your site will be stored. It can be either folder on local computer either remote host. After file unpack you could use installer in your browser.
To start work with Joomla! Installer you should define your language. It is possible to pick it in drop-down menu. This option is also available on the Configuration tab. After this you should see the installation wizard and your further task is only follow to its instructions. Fill password for the database and all fields marked with *.
After this the Installation Folder can be deleted. For this purpose you can use special orange button.
There are a lot of various languages supported by Joomla! If it is necessary, you can create you site in multiple languages versions. When installation is complete, you should login to the back-end (https://www.mysite.com/administrator/ ). Choose Menu > Extensions > Language Manager, after this you can install preferred language.
Nowadays you can choose among fifty language packs. To install chosen language it is necessary to click on the box near language name and press installation button. When in Language Manager is started, find your language and set it as default as for site as for the administrator.
As soon as Joomla! successfully installed on the web server, you can staring work with your site.
